KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 (Bernama) -- The following are the updates on COVID-19 figures in Malaysia and its Southeast Asian neighbours as at 6 pm today.
Data provided by Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at John Hopkins University and some of the countries indicate a continuous surge in new cases especially in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam believed to be due to the Delta variant.
Though the number of new cases have come down, yet Indonesia witnessed record number of deaths, 1338 over the last 24 hours. This has prompted the government to maintain restrictions in Java and Bali despite of the Aidiladha celebration tomorrow.
Over the last 24 hours, Thailand has hit an all-time high of 11,784 COVID-19 infections and 81 fatalities. Thai health authorities now fear the figures could reach 20,000-30,000 daily in worst case scenario.
Meanwhile, the Cambodian Government has gifted Vietnam 1 million medical face masks, 100,000 N95 face masks, 100 five-litre oxygen generators and cash worth US$200,000 to help its neighbour fight the pandemic.
The table below also indicates the status of some ASEAN nations including Malaysia as at 6pm today as the COVID-19 pandemic rages on and the vaccination process moves into high gear.

Meanwhile, the United States (US), India and Brazil remain the top three nations with highest number of positive cases and fatalities. Nonetheless, many countries have been reporting a slowdown in new cases and deaths in tandem with rising vaccination numbers.
