Justin still sticks to wee hours training routine

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Although having started to train with the national senior squad, rising men's singles shuttler Justin Hoh still maintains the training routine he has practised when he was with the junior team before.

The young player said he still wakes up as early as 4 am to train at Akademi Badminton Malaysia, Bukit Kiara, here, even though the session with the senior squad starts at 6.30 am.

"I got used to getting up at 4 in the morning when I was training under Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Youth Development director Datuk Misbun Sidek.

"Even though there is an extra two hours, I use that time to do additional training before starting to train with the senior squad at 6.30 am," he said when met at a training session yesterday.

At the same time, he admitted that the intensity of the training sessions with the senior squad was very high and difficult, but he was still happy to gain such an experience.

In the meantime, the 18-year-old hopes to perform at his best at the Malaysia International Challenge 2022 tournament in Perak from Dec 13 to 18, after failing to shine at the World Junior Championships in Santander, Spain, last month.

"The Malaysia International Challenge is a senior tournament so there are also many high ranking players participating in it. I just want to try my best and hopefully I can gather experience," he said.

Despite being eliminated early in the round of 16 at the 2022 World Junior Championships, Justin still has recorded a proud achievement by winning three titles, namely the Bonn International 2022 in Germany, the Croatian Open and the India Junior International Series 2022.
