KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- It was a bittersweet win for Terengganu’s Sara Alisha Nayar when she clinched the women’s singles tennis gold medal at the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma) today.
While delighted to strike gold, the 21-year-old was left distraught at having to beat her 17-year-old sister Anja Samia Nayar 6-1, 6-4 in the final at the Jalan Duta Sports Complex.
“This is a bittersweet moment for me. Although I am happy to have won, I am also sad that I had to beat my sister (Anja). We both played well in the final.
“It was tough playing against her as she is the seeded player here,” she told reporters after the final, which lasted over an hour.
Sara Alisha, who is a former national player, said the win allowed her to make amends for only winning the silver at the 2016 edition in Sarawak.
In the men’s singles category, Perak’s Mitsuki Leong Wei Kang downed Selangor’s Darrshan Suresh 6-0, 7-5 to take the gold medal, with Negeri Sembilan’s Naufal Siddiq Kamaruzzaman settling for bronze.
