WiPers dominate lawn bowl, grab two golds

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories contingent (WiPers) stamped their power at the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma) lawn bowl when they raked in two gold medals in the men’s pairs and women’s fours at Bukit Kiara Sports Complex today.

In the competition, WiPers duo of Mohd Muizzuddin Sanip and Muhamad Huzaimi Junaidi eciipsed Perak pair, Ahmad Zikri Sazeli and Muhamed Aqil Syahmi Mohamed for a rousing 18-10 victory to emerge as champions.

Commenting on the match, Mohd Muizzudin said he and his partner had no problem getting ahead of the opponent early in the match.

"During the match we left Perak far behind, so throughout the match we asked the coach for guidance to continue the winning momentum.

"We were really nervous in the beginning of the game because it was our first Sukma final, but we did our best. We were targeting gold for WiPers, and we just did our best," he said when met by reporters after the match here today.

He said his team was also aiming to bag gold in the men’s fours event which is taking place on Thursday in an effort to become the overall champion of the sport in Sukma.

The bronze medal of the event went to the Selangor who crushed Perlis 16-12 in another match to decide third and fourth placings.

Meanwhile, in the women's fours, the WiPers represented by Aqilah Syazwani Roslan, Nur Aimileeya Ismail, Nurul Husna Suraya and Nurulfarra Adiba Muhammad Ridhwan edged Perlis 13-12.

Sarawak had to settle for bronze after defeating Johor 15-14 in the third placing contest.

For the men's triple event, Perak were clearly far more superior when they won the gold after crushing Johor 18-4, while the bronze went to Sabah who overpowered Federal Territories 15-12 in another match.

In the meantime, Terengganu took the gold in the women's singles event when Nor Zamziezah Ahmad easily brushed aside the challenge of Kedah bowler Nurul Alia Fitrah Mohamad Ali 20-13 while third place went to Pahang’s Nik Asma Ifatul Aisya Bahari who beat Melaka’s bowler 21-13.
