UBON RATCHATHANI (Thailand), Aug 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysian wushu exponents continued to dominate the gold medal tally in the ASEAN University Games (AUG) after sweeping to victory in two more events here today.

In wushu events held at the Sunee Tower, the men’s and women’s teams completed a clean sweep of the duilian team event to collect their fourth and fifth gold medals of the games to emerge the overall champion in the sport.

In the men’s duilian event, Ang Qi Yue and Chuah Shangyang ensured the Malaysian contingent’s 48th gold with 9.61 points, edging Indonesia’s Harris Horatius, Edgar Xavier Marvelo and Siregar Serafnaro who managed (9.51pts) while host nation Thailand took the bronze through Joe Saeli and Pitaya Yanrungrawin who finished with (9.2 pts).

In the women’s duilian team event, Loh Ying Ying, Tammy Tan Hui Ling and Tan Cheong Min collected 9.23 points to beat Indonesian trio Eugenia Widodo, Diva Puspa and Dewi Tasya Ayu who managed 9.16 points while another Malaysian trio comprising Lee Jia Tong, Sydney Chin Sy Xuan and Mandy Cebelle Chen collected the bronze medal with (9.12 pts).

Wushu team manager Sharel Rizel Dzahari said the wushu camp’s five gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals in the AUG was thus far the best performance in the games and surpassed all expectaions.

"Our target was three gold medals but our team managed to win five gold medals. This is the wushu team’s best collection of medals in the AUG participation. Furthermore, all wushu exponents in the team managed to win a medal for themselves,” he said when met here today.
