KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 -- eSports player Muhammad Luqman Haziq Hajiman, or better known as GBX.LuqmanHzq, emerged champion of the FIFA Global Series East Asia Qualifier 3 yesterday.
The win not only saw him make history by becoming the first Malaysian to get on the chart of the FIFA Global Series, but it also earned him a ticket to compete in the FIFA Global Series East Asia Playoff scheduled to be held in June.
“My initial target was to at least finish third because it would improve my placing in the FIFA Global Series chart. Alhamdulillah, thanks to the determination and support from my team, I was able to stay unbeaten to emerge victorious,” he said in a statement from GBX ESport Team.
Luqman Haziq faced quite a challenging task when he was drawn to meet East Asia’s best player from Indonesia, Eggsy of team RRQ in the preliminary rounds, followed by a player from Singapore and two from Japan.
In the final, GBX.LuqmanHzq defeated Singapore's Buzzinho 3-2 to be crowned overall champion.
