JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 14 -- The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has agreed to rename the Johor Cricket Academy & Oval in Mutiara Rini, near here, to the Datuk Dr Harjit Singh Johor Cricket Academy & Oval.

According to a post on Sultan Ibrahim's official Facebook page, which included some photographs, it (renaming) is in appreciation of the services of the late Dr Harjit, a figure who contributed a lot to the development of cricket in Malaysia and Johor. Dr Harjit died on Oct 20 last year, aged 70. 

Meanwhile, according to the posting, the decision was welcomed by acting president of the Johor Cricket Council (JCC), Datuk Avinderjit Singh.

The JCC, he said paid tribute to Sultan Ibrahim for his consent to immortalise the late Dr Harjit at the academy.

“Dr Harjit was an individual who had contributed much to the development of cricket and we will always remember and miss him,” Avinderjit said.
