KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 -- The riddle regarding the import player who will fill the quota of ASEAN player for the Kedah Darul Aman (KDA FC) football team is finally answered after Singapore international, M. Anumanthan signed up for the Malaysian League (M-League) competition this season.
This was revealed by KDA FC, through the latest post on its Facebook page today, which unravelled that the former Hougang United club player, had signed a one-year contract with the team.
The 26-year-old replaced compatriot, Muhammad Shakir Hamzah whose contracted was not extended by KDA FC. Muhammad Shakir joined Perak for the 2021 M-League competition.
“His ability to play in several important positions in the Kedah squad has attracted the interest of the KDA FC coaching staff to get his service.
"Apart from being tall, the experience of being together with (KDA FC coach) Aidil Sharin (Sahak) at Home United before this would help form a good understanding for the 2021 season," according to KDA FC.
Anumanthan was under the guidance of Aidil Sharin when representing Home United in the Singapore League competition from 2016 to 2018.
KDA FC had, prior to this, decided to retain the services of three existing import players, namely, Brazilian defender Renan Alves, Kpah Sherman (Liberia), Brice Hermann Tchétché Kipré (Ivory Coast) as well as seek the services of former UiTM FC import striker Rabih Ataya from Lebanon to fill the Asian player slots.
Kedah, which was the Super League runners-up last season, will start the 2021 M-League campaign against the defending Super League champion, Johor Darul Ta'zim in the Subangsih Cup match for the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Cup at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri on Feb 26.
