KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 -- The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) in a statement today said it was not bound to inform of a decision made by its Assistance Committee to anyone other than the association that made the application.
This comes following a brouhaha on Facebook over the provision of aid to Moto2 rider Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin, who is from the OneXOX TKKR SAG Team.
KBS said in Kasma Daniel’s case, the application was received from the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM), and after being evaluated by the committee, the approval for the allocation was sent to MAM via a letter dated Sept 3.
"The financial assistance was channeled as a sign of support to enable Kasma Daniel, a national athlete and youth with great potential, to make the country proud in the tournament he participated in," the ministry said in a statement, today.
The country's rider reportedly received financial assistance of RM52,000 to cover his flight tickets and accommodation costs to participate in the Moto2 World Championship this season, and the OneXOX TKKR SAG Team via a Facebook post on Friday expressed displeasure over not being informed of the matter.
Meanwhile, KBS said it also did not prevent either the association, athlete or team from making any statement regarding the approval and distribution of assistance that was done in accordance with financial regulations.
The ministry stressed that in principle, it did not channel any form of financial assistance for the development of sports directly to any individual or company.
“The Assistance Committee will consider an application received by KBS, and if approved, it will be channeled through relevant sports associations such as MAM in this case.
"The Assistance Committee is also bound by the existing guidelines and financial procedures and can be audited at any time," he said.
KBS said it was committed to helping the entire national sports ecosystem, especially those affected by the spread of COVID-19, and expressed its appreciation for sports associations, management and sponsorship companies that placed their trust in national athletes.
