KOTA BHARU, May 23 -- The Kelantan Football Association (KAFA) has appealed to the state government for help after sinking deeper into financial trouble following the withdrawal of its main sponsor.
KAFA Action Committee chairman Ahmad Muzakkir Hamid said that even before the withdrawal of main sponsor After Image Sdn Bhd, the state association was already reeling from the economic impact of COVID-19.
"We lost our source of income in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, and now our main sponsor After Image has pulled out because of cashflow problems.
"We appeal to the state government to help us resolve our deep financial woes; Show your love for Kelantan FA, which has enhanced Kelantan’s image before,” he said in a statement here today.
According to media reports, KAFA’s trouble worsened after Datuk Wan Rakemi Wan Zahari resigned as the managing director of Team Red Warriors (TRW) Sdn Bhd with immediate effect.
His resignation indirectly led to After Image, which had major interests in Team TRW Sdn Bhd, withdrawing as an official partner of the team
Ahmad Muzakkir said financial aid was sorely needed as the association was totally dependent on sponsorship and proceeds from sales of tickets and jerseys.
"Since the M-League was suspended (because of COVID-19), no money has flowed into the accounts of KAFA.
"KAFA belongs to the people, who feel sad over our fate, and many have contributed to the donation drive launched earlier,” he added.
