ALOR SETAR, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) handed over the MADANI Adopted Village (KAM) and the MADANI Adopted School Projects 2025 in Tikam Batu, Sungai Petani, yesterday.

In a statement, KPDN said the programme is a strategic government initiative implemented in line with the Malaysia MADANI spirit, aimed at strengthening rural development and empowering village communities in a holistic and sustainable manner.

“The initiative emphasises a collaborative approach through the comprehensive involvement of government agencies, the private sector, educational institutions and the local community in planning and implementing high-impact development programmes.

“With an allocation of RM1.1 million, KPDN successfully carried out four physical projects, as well as two supply projects and two community service programmes each in Mukim Tikam Batu and Mukim Simpor,” the statement said.

Among the KAM projects were the upgrading of village roads and the canteen at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Simpor, the installation of 42 solar-powered streetlights and the construction of a fence around the Alor Bemban cemetery.

The ministry also supplied and installed air-conditioning units at mosques and surau, as well as public address systems at surau.

For the MADANI Adopted School programme, KPDN focused not only on development projects but also on upgrading works at nearby schools to ensure direct high-impact benefits for students.

At SK Tikam Batu, the ministry replaced wooden walls in three classrooms with brick walls and replaced the old preschool fence to provide a safer and more comfortable learning environment.

KPDN also supplied teaching and learning equipment and carried out science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programmes to encourage children to venture into innovation and skills-based fields.

“The implementation of these projects is not merely physical development, but a manifestation of the Malaysia MADANI principles of compassion and well-being, ensuring that no group is left behind in the mainstream of modernisation.

“This approach is designed to ensure that the benefits of development are shared by all segments of society, particularly rural communities,” the statement added.
