KUANTAN, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Two female contractors were each fined RM8,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here after they pleaded guilty to impersonating police officers to defraud a woman last October.

Nor Farahanis Mohammad Hanizam, 31, and Noor Afiqah Aman Shah entered their guilty plea after the charges against them were read out before Magistrate Ellyna Othman.

The magistrate imposed a fine of RM4,000 on each charge and ordered that both women be jailed for six months if they failed to pay.

Both accused were jointly charged with cheating a 53-year-old woman by impersonating police officers, prompting her to pay RM400 and RM250 to settle her son’s traffic summons linked to an accident.

The offences were committed at 8.11 am on Oct 3 and 9.39 am on Oct 10 at Balok Permai, Jalan Kuantan-Kemaman, here.

The charges were framed under Section 419 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34, which provides for a prison term of up to seven years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Firdaus Ahmad Mokhlis appeared for the prosecution, while both accused were represented by lawyers Farah Atiqah Asruddin and Mohd Azahari Matiasin from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).

Meanwhile, in a separate court, Nor Farahanis and Noor Afiqah pleaded not guilty to three counts of impersonating police officers to obtain money from a man for the settlement of a khalwat (close proximity) case.

The duo entered their plea after the charges were read out before Magistrate Tengku Eliana Tuan Kamaruzaman.

They were jointly charged with deceiving a 22-year-old man by impersonating police officers, prompting him to make three payments totalling RM1,749 to settle his khalwat case.

The offences were allegedly committed between July 9 and Sept 2 in Sungai Karang and Gebeng, here.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Nabilla Huda Jasmani, while both accused were represented by Nurul Syafiqa Syeba Atan of YBGK.

Tengku Eliana allowed both accused bail of RM6,500 each and set Dec 11 for mention of the case.
