SEPANG, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government is committed to ensuring that the state's development goes in tandem with the preservation of its environment, culture, and heritage, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said this when opening the Bagan Lalang Beach Festival @ Sepang 2025 today.

The event, organised by the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang), is held in conjunction with the 2025 Visit Selangor Year campaign.

Amirudin said the organisation of the two-day festival was proof of the close cooperation between the state government, local authorities, government agencies, the private sector and the multi-racial community, strengthening unity while generating economic benefits for small traders and homestay operators.

"The Bagan Lalang Beach Festival @ Sepang is filled with various sports activities, beach events and art performances, making the Sepang district a unique tourist destination in Selangor," he said.

According to him, Selangor has received more than 4.1 million tourists as of June 2025, with 624,794 of them to the Sepang district, proving the area's great potential in attracting local and international tourists.

Amirudin said the state government is also offering various incentives to support entrepreneurs in the tourism sector, to enhance competitiveness, improve the quality of products and services, and further strengthen the 2025 Visit Selangor Year campaign.

He also said that the state’s 291-kilometre coastal waters are a valuable asset, both for its marine ecosystem and economic potential, and must be safeguarded from pollution caused by irresponsible parties.

“The beauty of the coast that we enjoy today needs to be preserved. The responsibility to protect and conserve it does not rest solely on the government, but is a trust for all of us to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy it,” he said.

He commended MPSepang for its consistent efforts in maintaining the cleanliness and comfort of Bagan Lalang Beach, while reaffirming the state government’s commitment to supporting programmes that bring a positive impact to the tourism industry.
