KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- The Merdeka Eve celebrations across the country tonight was a lively affair with various patriotic events attended by a multi-ethnic community as soon as the programmes kicked off this evening.
In the capital, people started to gather at Dataran Merdeka as early as 4 pm to celebrate Merdeka Eve, which was filled with cultural performances, local artist performances, and a parade carrying 68 Jalur Gemilang flags as a symbol of the 68th National Day this year.
A fireworks display provided the highlight for the Merdeka Eve celebration at Dataran Merdeka.
In PAHANG, several main locations in Kuantan were filled with people from all walks of life to celebrate the country's historic day, including Teluk Cempedak and the grounds of the Kuantan 188 tower, which also had a fireworks display.
Additionally, the Pahang Berselawat Programme at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Mosque in Kuantan also took place in conjunction with Merdeka Eve, starting at 6 pm with various activities, including a talk and congregational prayers.
In PERLIS, the Merdeka Eve celebration was lively at Dataran Lok 9, Kuala Perlis, with activities such as the recitation of patriotic poems and a parade of decorated vehicles with colourful lights on display for visitors tonight.
The Merdeka Eve Celebration in KEDAH was celebrated in high spirits with the presence of thousands of people at Taman Jubli Emas as early as 8 pm to watch various performances, with the highlight being the shouts of 'Merdeka' as the clock struck 12 at midnight.
In PERAK, the Merdeka Eve celebration was full of excitement at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah, Meru near Ipoh, with the presence of more than 20,000 visitors who flocked to the location to celebrate the historic moment.
While waiting for the clock to strike 12 (midnight), the celebration was warmed by traditional dance performances by the Gentari Group of the Perak Malaysian Arts School, Sri Agni Arts Association, SJKC Wan Hwa 1 (Ipoh), and the Perak Indigenous Peoples Cultural and Arts Association.
In MELAKA, the Merdeka Eve celebration took place lively on Persiaran Jalan Merdeka Banda Hilir with more than 20,000 visitors, including foreign tourists.
In SELANGOR, National Day eve which was celebrated at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam, was lively with the presence of thousands of visitors who began filling the space as early as 3 pm.
The celebration also saw Rear Admiral (R) Datuk Anuar Alias named the Selangor 2025 Independence Figure and the presentation of contributions to the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) Veterans Association and the Selangor Ex-Policemen Association.
In NEGERI SEMBILAN, the Merdeka Eve celebration was lively with the presence of about 5,000 visitors in Seri Menanti, Kuala Pilah, in addition to various activities held since early this morning.
The programme started in Jempol with the Kembara Merdeka Akar Umbi 2.0, involving 250 high-powered motorcycles touring the entire district and ending with a fireworks display in the Terachi Cultural Village, Kuala Pilah.
In KELANTAN, more than 30,000 visitors came to enliven the Merdeka Eve celebration of the 68th National Day at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium, Kota Bharu, watching various interesting events such as a parade of contingents from government and state agencies and the singing of patriotic songs.
Meanwhile, in JOHOR, Muslims in Segamat, a district affected by a weak earthquake since last week, celebrated Merdeka Eve by attending the Segamat Bermunajat programme at Dataran Segamat.
About 200 people participated in congregational Maghrib and Isyak prayers and a solat hajat led by the Imam of Segamat Town Mosque, Mohd Yazid Afiq Ismail. The programme also included an Islamic Understanding Forum on Merdeka Eve, as well as the recitation of yasin, tahlil, and a prayer of thanks.
The excitement was also felt in SARAWAK tonight through the Merdeka Eve Celebration Concert 2025 at the Integrated Sports Centre in Kampung Seberang, which saw the presence of about 10,000 spectators.
