MINA (Saudi Arabia), June 5 (Bernama-SPA) -- The Makkah Municipality has completed the implementation of an extensive and advanced lighting network in Arafat, featuring a distinctive architectural design and modern installation techniques, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
On the evening of Tarwiyah -- the day before the Day of Arafah and the formal beginning of the Hajj pilgrimage -- the area was illuminated by a breathtaking display of lights.
The municipality’s coordinated lighting arrangements transformed Arafat into a glowing beacon, heightening the spiritual ambience and offering pilgrims a sense of reassurance.
According to the municipality, the new network comprises around 20,000 lighting units of varying capacities, mounted on approximately 5,000 towers and poles of different sizes and shapes.
These units have been strategically placed to ensure full coverage across all streets and roads of Arafat, forming a comprehensive visual lighting system.
It added that the lighting networks at the holy sites are regularly updated and expanded every year, with early preparations involving maintenance of all components.
For the current Hajj season, special attention was given to key areas in Arafat, including pedestrian paths and routes linking Arafat to Muzdalifah and other important sites.
