PAAB Oversees Construction Of Three WTPs, Old Pipe Replacement Projects In Kelantan

KOTA BHARU, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) is currently overseeing the implementation of projects worth over RM273 million, involving the construction of three water treatment plants (WTPs) and two projects to replace old and damaged pipes in Kelantan.

The three WTPs are the Chicha WTP with a capacity of 20 million litres per day (MLD), the Bukit Chupak WTP at 10 MLD, and the Tanjung Mas WTP at 30 MLD, while The pipe replacement projects will span 113 kilometres across Kota Bharu Utara and Kota Bharu Selatan.

PAAB chief executive officer Zulkiflee Omar said the Bukit Chupak WTP project is expected to be completed in September 2025, while the Chicha WTP is slated for completion in January 2026, and the Tanjung Mas WTP is projected to finish by August 2028.

“The construction of the WTPs will enhance water supply capacity in the Chicha WTP, serving the Pasir Hor and Kota Seribong areas, while the Tanjung Mas WTP will cater to the Kota Bharu area, and the Bukit Chupak WTP will benefit the Sungai Terah area and the old town of Gua Musang,” he said during his visit to the Chicha Phase 2 WTP construction site here today.

According to Zulkiflee, the two projects aimed at replacing outdated and damaged pipes in Kota Bharu Utara and Kota Bharu Selatan are expected to be completed in October 2025.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited the Chicha Phase 2 WTP construction site and the distribution system at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pasir Hor, where he received a briefing from Zulkiflee on the ongoing progress of the WTP projects.
