UMK ACCREDITED AS FIRST PUBLIC ENTREPRENEURIAL UNIVERSITY IN MALAYSIA

BACHOK -- Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) has become the first public university to receive the international accreditation as the Entrepreneurial University in Malaysia.

UMK vice-chancellor Prof Dr Nik Maheran Nik Muhammad said the accreditation was officially given by the Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities (ACEEU) on Nov 23.

"We were targeting UMK to gain accreditation in 2023, but the hard work put in by all parties has seen us achieve it earlier,” he told reporters after 10th and 11th UMK Convocation ceremony at the Bachok Campus here today that was also attended by UMK Pro Chancellor II Tan Sri Datuk Dr Asiah Abu Samah.

He said that since UMK's establishment in 2006, more than 4,000 graduates, or an average of almost 300 per year, successfully completed their studies.

"According to the stipulation by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), at least four per cent of students who have completed their studies must have obtained employment as entrepreneurs but UMK managed to achieve almost 15 per cent each year,” he said.

CLAIMS OF WIDESPREAD GAMBLING IN KLANG SELATAN BASELESS - POLICE

KLANG -- Police have described claims by Facebook account holder Aemierulrizaki Rambli that gaming premises have begun to operate rampantly in the area under the jurisdiction of the Klang Selatan District Police Headquarters following the transfer of its police chief as a baseless allegation.

Its police chief, ACP Cha Hoong Fong refuted the allegation, which had gone viral since yesterday, saying it could jeopardise the image of the Klang Selatan Police specifically and that of the Royal Malaysia Police in general.

He said they were always taking action in efforts to eradicate gambling and prostitution activities in the district, adding that it was among the districts with the most number of arrests and convictions for such cases.

He also told a media conference today that the account holder had been identified and would be called up to give his statement.

“We want him to give any information he has. If he refuses, we will issue a notice requiring his presence according to Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” he said.
