KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 – In conjunction with Ramadan, 50 asnaf (the poor and needy) from Perumahan Awam (PA) Desa Rejang, Setapak (a public housing community) received financial aid, food and daily essentials from the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) today.
Under the ‘Ramadan MAIWP Bersama Komuniti Siri 2’ programme as well, a person with disability (PWD) received a three-wheel motorcycle and the management of Surau Muhajirin PA Desa Rejang was given a donation of RM12,500.
“This programme and others have been made successful through zakat collected in Kuala Lumpur.
“At the same time, MAIWP is calling on corporations and industry to help it reach out to more poor people,” said MAIWP council member, Prof Dr Mohd Roslan Mohd Nor, during the handover ceremony.
He said MAIWP’s programmes will run throughout Ramadan to help people get through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Carpenter, Mohd Filus Yahya, 57, who received the three-wheel motorcycle said: “Now it will be easy for me to collect wood and make deliveries to my customers … I hope others like me will be helped, too.”
