KUCHING, June 30 -- A bridge connecting the Sungai Maong area and Segedup will not only provide a new alternative route when ready, but will also ease traffic congestion on the main road in Batu Kawa.
Sarawak Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who said this, is also confident that the bridge will provide an opportunity to open up a new development area in the vicinity.
“Thus, we will find ways to develop this area while the route to Segedup will be shorter unlike now, which is long.
“Secondly, we can plan housing development with reasonably priced homes for this area when construction of the connecting bridge is completed,” he said at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Sungai Maong-Segedup bridge project.
Abang Johari also said that besides planned development in the urban areas, the state government was focusing on developing the rural areas so that the objective of making Sarawak a developed state by 2030 could be achieved.
“We are fortunate as the good situation (political stability) has enabled us to focus on development projects like building of roads and bridges, and creation of agricultural areas so that both the urban and rural people can enjoy the fruits of development,” he added.
The connecting bridge, costing about RM29 million to build, is a state government development project which is expected to be completed by January 2022.
