KOTA KINABALU, May 14 (Bernama) -- Sabah Bersatu’s Srikandi (women’s) wing has listed the names of candidates to contest in at least four parliamentary constituencies in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).
Its chief Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd Dun said they include constituencies in the north, east coast and interior of Sabah with winning potential for its women candidates.
“The criteria for these candidates are those who work in those respective areas, at least have a Diploma, and have knowledge not only in politics but also in community work,” she said.
She said this at a press conference after chairing the Sabah Bersatu Srikandi meeting at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here today.
Azizah, who is also Beaufort MP, said the list of selected women candidates would be submitted to the Bersatu leadership before being announced later.
She said Sabah Bersatu Srikandi was also preparing to face GE15 by mobilising the party machinery, especially in reaching out to young voters.
Azizah said among matters to be focused on is poverty among women in rural areas so that they could be independent, especially young single mothers.
On whether she was ready to defend her seat, Azizah said she was ready to give it up if the Bersatu leadership wants to field a new candidate.
“The incumbent is from Bersatu Srikandi… so her replacement must also be from Srikandi. In politics, there are times when we carry on the struggle, and there are times when we give way to others,” she said.
