ALOR SETAR, May 17 -- The swearing-in of Jeneri assemblyman Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor as the 14th Kedah Menteri Besar today has ended the speculations about the change of state government.

Change of government in Kedah is closely linked to the country's political crisis in February which saw  Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) exited the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition and followed by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's appointment as Prime Minister.

Following these developments, some states, namely Johor, Melaka and Perak have seen a change of government and today Kedah.

Here is a chronology of the political events in Kedah from February until today:

*Feb 24: Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announces the party exiting PH.

*May 6: Kedah PAS expresses confidence to take over the state administration from the mixed state  government led by Mukhriz.

*May 12: Two Kedah assemblymen from PKR, Azman Nasrudin (Lunas) and Dr Robert Ling Kui Ee (Sidam), quit the party and threw their support behind the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government under the leadership of Muhyiddin.

*May 12: Kedah Opposition chief Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor announces that 19 out of 36 Kedah assemblymen have lost confidence in Mukhriz's leadership.

Muhammad Sanusi says they are 15 PAS, two UMNO and two PKR assemblymen.

He claims that four Bersatu assemblymen have also lost confidence in Mukhriz.

*May 13: Mukhriz, at a press conference, stresses that he is still Kedah MB and that the state government is still intact.

*May 13: Three party presidents of UMNO, PAS and Bersatu meet the Sultan of Kedah, Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, to present 23 statutory declarations (SDs) from state assemblymen proposing a new candidate for the menteri besar post.

*May 15: All 36 Kedah assemblymen have an audience with Sultan Sallehuddin at Wisma Darul Aman, Alor Setar.
