KUCHING, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Energy, in collaboration with Sarawak Forestry Corporation, planted 300 native tree seedlings at Piasau Nature Reserve in Miri on Feb 8, reinforcing its long-term commitment to environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation across Sarawak.

Sarawak Energy, in a statement today, said this is part of its Tree Planting, Protection and Habitat Restoration Campaign, which aims to plant and protect 500,000 trees by 2030.

It added that about 30 Sarawak Energy senior leaders and employees participated in the programme, led by Group chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili.

Sharbini said the initiative supports Sarawak Energy’s commitment to ensuring that renewable energy development proceeds with care for ecosystems and biodiversity.

“This initiative reflects our responsibility to ensure that environmental stewardship remains integral to Sarawak Energy’s growth journey.

“Through sustained reforestation and habitat restoration efforts, we aim to contribute meaningfully to the preservation of Sarawak’s rich natural heritage for future generations,” he said.

The seedlings planted included native species, such as Kara, Cempedak, Terap, Kasai and Pulur, selected to support ecological restoration and enhance habitat diversity within the reserve.

Piasau Nature Reserve, located in Miri, is an important urban sanctuary known for its hornbill population. The planting contributes to strengthening urban biodiversity and supporting ongoing conservation efforts within a rapidly developing area.

As of Dec 26, 2025, Sarawak Energy has planted more than 247,000 trees statewide under its campaign, including over 58,000 trees in 2025 alone, progressing towards its target of planting 500,000 trees by 2030.
