SEPANG, May 31 (Bernama) -- Md Akid Aziz aims to defend his overall title in style by winning all 10 races in the CP150 category in this season's Malaysia Cub Prix Championships.

The 26-year-old Petronas Sprinta Yamaha CKJ Racing team rider got the 2024 season off to a perfect start when he won the first two races in Jasin, Melaka on March 2-3 and in Tangkak, Johor on May 4-5 to lead the standings with 50 points.

With eight rounds to go, including this weekend's race at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) North, Md Akid admitted that it would be a tough ask to win all 10 races.

"It is still early days, but I must be prepared to collect as many points as possible until the end of the season to retain my position at the top of the standings. Heading into the third round, I am sure the other teams and their riders would have adjusted their bike settings to improve their performances.

"In addition, changes to the machine specifications have resulted in a slightly lower power for this season. We need development to increase the power… that will be handled by the R&D (research and development) team so that we can still reign supreme,” he told Bernama.

He said this after Red Bull Malaysia (Red Bull) signed sponsorship agreements with the three teams competing under Petronas Sprinta Yahama in the Cub Prix championships - Petronas Sprinta Yamaha 31 Racing, Petronas Sprinta Yamaha CKJ and Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor - at the SIC here today.

Commenting on this weekend's race, Md Akid said the circuit condition on Saturday and Sunday would have a bearing on the results.

After two rounds of the CP150 category, Team SGR Honda Estremo Yuzy's Azroy Hakeem Anuar (33 points) is second, followed by Petronas Sprinta Yamaha CKJ's Ahmad Afif Amran (26 points) and Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor's Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin (20 points).

Meanwhile, TCP Red Bull Malaysia co-country director Andy Lee said the number one energy drink producer in the country intends to help riders with high ambitions achieve their dreams.

“We will help these three teams of young and passionate riders throughout the year, while our team works on future collaborations. For the future, it is not limited to motorsports, it can be any sport as long as we share the same objectives, as well as we are passionate and believe in what we do,” he said.
