MOHD ABDUL KARIM ABDULLAH APPOINTED PRO-CHANCELLOR OF UNIMY

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 -- Serba Dinamik Holdings Berhad group chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Dr Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah has been appointed pro-chancellor of University Malaysia of Computer Science and Engineering (UNIMY).

The appointment was announced at the university’s second convocation that was presided by its vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Mohd Razali Muhamad in Cyberjaya, today.

UNIMY in a statement said that under Mohd Abdul Karim's leadership, the group of companies flourished from just a local contractor in rotating equipment service provider into an international powerhouse in total engineering solutions for broad industries; with presence in 25 countries across six continents.

A mechanical engineering graduate from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Mohd Abdul Karim is a member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia as well as a member of ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisation.

He is also the chairman of Sarawak Consolidated Industrial Berhad, Kumpulan Powernet Berhad and Bion PLC, UK and has won many awards and accolades locally and internationally for his achievements in Serba Dinamik as well as a successful industrialist.

At the event, UNIMY also conferred honorary doctorates on Salah Salem Omair Al Shamsi of LIWA Investment Holdings (UAE) and Datuk Mohammad Hardee Ibrahim of SME Bank (Malaysia).

“The awarding of the honorary degree to these two distinguished individuals is in recognition of their achievements which serve as examples and motivating factors of the university’s aspirations for our students in their journey forward towards serving the nation.

“We welcome these pioneer honorary doctorates into the UNIMY family and look forward to enriching UNIMY’s initiatives through their vast knowledge in entrepreneurship and business,” the statement read.

The second convocation saw 391 graduands from multi-disciplines took centre stage, marking their completion of their postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma, and foundation studies.

A Prize Presentation Ceremony was also held during the convocation to celebrate the exceptional accomplishments of the university’s best students.

Three students were presented with the Chancellor’s Award in recognition of their outstanding performance in academics and extracurricular activities.

Two students received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for their outstanding achievement in extracurricular activities, nine were presented with the Distinction Award in recognition of their exceptional academic performance while seven students were presented with Industry Awards from UNIMY’s industry partners.
