IPOH, Nov 26 -- Jalan Utama Pos Beswok, Kuala Kangsar, to the Orang Asli settlement in Pos Yum has been closed to all vehicles due to the landslide incident yesterday.
A statement issued by the Kangar District Engineer’s Office of the Public Works Department (JKR) said the road covered a stretch of 60 metres, with the depth of the slope estimated at between 10 metres and 15 metres.
“The machinery will enter (the area) today for construction of a temporary road that connects the road that has been cut off and (work) is expected to be completed in one to two days. A road closure notice has been issued, ” it said.
It said the slope reconstruction at the location will be carried out based on the forensic examination of the failure of the slope.
Several pictures of the landslide were spread on the Facebook social network, with a caption that said residents had been complaining about the condition of the road for years.
Meanwhile, Perak Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun said the landslide involved three locations, namely Jalan Beswok-Pos Yum (A300) at Section 5.0, Section 5.9, and Jalan Bawong-Pos Legap-Kuala Mu (A299) at section 13.
"For Jalan A300, section 5.0 is the road stretch before Lata Penyel and Section 5.9 is the road after Lata Penyel with both leading to Pos Yum," he said.
However, he said, the stretch at A299 section 5.9 and section 13 is passable to light vehicles only.
