PENANG POLICE INCREASE INTERSTATE SOP MONITORING COMPLIANCE TEAMS
BATU KAWAN, Oct 14 - Penang police are prepared for the arrival of 50,000 visitors to the state, starting tomorrow, especially in ensuring public compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) for those who have been fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine.
Its chief, Datuk Fisol Salleh said initial steps had also been taken by increasing the SOP compliance teams from 114 teams to 150 teams with more than 2,000 officers and police personnel since Monday after the federal government lifted the ban on interstate travel.
"We also added teams, from 60 to 90 teams, to conduct "snap checks" or random inspections on the public in several focus areas including rest and service areas (R&R), beaches and public focus locations," he told reporters here after a handing over ceremony of a Proton X70 multipurpose patrol vehicle by Inari Technology Sdn Bhd.
He added that a total of 2,000 members have been assigned to monitor the people who are either returning to their hometown state or are tourists to the state which is expected to start tomorrow.
SEREMBAN, Oct 14 (Bernama) - The Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council (MAINS) has channelled a total of RM70.7 million in zakat distribution assistance to asnafs (eligible tithe recipients) in the state since January until last month.
Its chairman, Datuk Dr Abdul Aziz Sheikh Ab Kadir said MAINS also increased the minimum amount of zakat from RM500 to RM800 per month to recipients according to the number of family dependents.
MAINS also aims to increase zakat collection to RM200 million this year compared to RM178 million achieved last year, he said after officiating the "October Counselling Month" programme at Menara MAINS, here, today.
UMK INTRODUCES EXCLUSIVE GOLD WAFER PRODUCT TO HELP 45 PROSPECTIVE GRADUATES
KOTA BHARU, Oct 14 -- Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) in collaboration with the Perbadanan Menteri Besar Kelantan (PMBK), today, introduced an exclusive one-gramme gold wafer product to help 45 prospective graduates in conjunction with their convocation ceremony to be held from Nov 20-25.
UMK vice-chancellor (Performing Functions) Prof Nik Maheran Nik Muhammad said the effort was carried out to celebrate the graduates who received their degrees on the day of the convocation.
"One unit of gold wafer is sold for RM320 and we are targeting 1,000 units of special edition gold wafers in the near future," she said after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PMBK, MoU with Kelantan Gold Trade Sdn Bhd as well as the launch of the exclusive product of the 10th and 11th UMK Convocation edition, here, today.
Nik Maheran said the special feature of the gold wafer product was that it featured an attractive design with a university background as well as the UMK convocation mace and Kelantan state coat of arms and was suitable as a token or exclusive souvenir and a good long-term savings asset for UMK family and the public.
YAYASAN IKHLAS DONATES RM3.8 MLN TOWARDS PPE FOR FRONTLINERS SINCE MARCH 2020
KOTA BHARU, Oct 14 -- Yayasan Ikhlas has channelled a contribution of RM3.8 million, since March last year until now, towards personal protective equipment (PPE) for front-line workers.
Its board of trustees chairman, Prof Dr Zainur Rashid Zainuddin said the donation involved 140,000 sets of PPE which had been distributed to state health departments, especially in Selangor, Sabah, Sarawak, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah and Kuala Lumpur.
"Through Tabung Wira COVID-19 programme, it can also indirectly help improve the economy of those involved, including women in the asnaf group, single mothers, and those who lost their jobs as the PPE was produced from them," he told reporters after handing over a contribution of 10,500 PPE, worth RM307,350, to Kelantan Health Department (JKNK) director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin at the JKNK Infectious Diseases Branch, here, today.
Zainur said his team was targeting to obtain a fund of RM2 million before the end of this year for the same assistance.
6,000 PEOPLE EXPECTED TO USE BUS SERVICES AT TBS
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 -- A total of 6,000 people are expected to use the bus service at the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) here, this weekend, following the lifting of the interstate ban by the government on Monday.
Datuk Roslan Shariff, the managing director of Maju TMAS Sdn Bhd, the operator of TBS services, said that currently the public confidence in using bus services is increasing although slowly.
“The number of passengers is now around 40 per cent. Yesterday, it reached 4,000 passengers. It may take some time to return to pre-COVID-19 period when it was 11,000 passengers daily.
"Discussions are held everyday with more than 100 bus operators about trips. We do not want to have trips, for example, to tourist destinations but without sufficient passenger load as many people now (only) want to return to their hometowns," he told reporters here today.
JAWI ORGANISES 'SEMARAK CINTA RASUL' IN CONJUNCTION WITH MAULIDUR RASUL
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 -- The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) has organised the "Semarak Cinta Rasul" programme at the regional level with more than 40 entries in conjunction with the Maulidur Rasul.
According to a statement from JAWI, the programme, which started last Saturday until Nov 3, aims to invite Muslims to appreciate and emulate the story of Prophet Muhammad SAW in the aspects of family and community life.
The highlight will be the Federal Territory Maulidur Rasul Celebration on Oct 19 which will see the conferment of Tokoh Maulidur Rasul by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Idris Ahmad.
There are also six Maulidur Rasul forums featuring some well-known preachers such as Habib Ali Zaenal Abidin, Ustaz Abdul Somad and Ustaz Don Daniyal Don Biyajid.
UTAR DEVELOPS COVID-19 DIGITAL PANDEMIC TIMELINE
