10 RAMADAN OF SHARING INFAQ PROGRAMME GIVES STUDENTS IN CANBERRA A TASTE OF HOME
KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 -- A total of 100 Malaysian students pursuing tertiary education in Canberra, Australia were ‘transported’ back home this Ramadan when they were treated to local dishes such as Nasi Lemak, Ayam Percik and Satay for Iftar.
The 10 Ramadan of Sharing Infaq programme, hosted by Asian Taste Canberra in collaboration with the Malaysian Students Organisation (MSO), distributed food packs with the aim of overcoming the social issue of ‘hungry students’ as well as promoting togetherness and spirit of sharing during the holy month.
The programme, sponsored by Serba Dinamik Group Berhad, runs from May 3 to 12.
“It is common knowledge that some students who are studying abroad can find themselves in a financial constraint and therefore cooking or buying meals could be a burden; hence we want to lessen that burden by helping them with Iftar meals,” said director of SD Impex Australia Fatos Omar Othman in a statement.
He said the company felt that this small act of providing authentic Malaysian food for the students could also help ease their homesickness as they are away from their homes and families during this auspicious month.
