SHAH ALAM, March 26 -- The Selangor government is launching the 'Selangor Agro Market' programme at several locations in the state starting tomorrow to ensure that people can buy a wide variety of vegetables and fruits at affordable prices.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the move was made following problems that occurred in the supply chain resulting in the dumping of vegetables and fruits in the market.

“The dumping eventually led to the disposal of the food items. So, the Selangor Agro Market will serve as a location for storage and sale of the items such as vegetables, onions, chillies, potatoes, and bananas.

"This step is also seen as helping the farmers to keep the supply chain intact," he said in a statement here tonight.

Amirudin added that an allocation of RM1 million was also provided in the form of a revolving fund by the state government to be used for the purpose of storing and selling the items at selected locations.

Amirudin said the concept of the first phase of the programme under the Selangor Stimulus Package coordinated by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) was pre-ordered or walk-in.

The second phase, he said, would be announced next week pending discussions with major supermarkets for the purpose of supplying and distributing the goods.

People who want to get fresh vegetables and fruits can place their order online at www.agrobazaar.com.my and pick them up at three designated locations, namely Holysmoke Cafe at Section 13 Shah Alam, Mak Uda Restaurant at Section 15 Shah Alam and Mad About Cafe in Petaling Jaya.

Consumers can also buy the raw materials at the FAMA Operations Centres in Dengkil, Puchong, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam as well as the Selayang wholesale market and My Farm Outlet in Putrajaya.
