KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM) lauds the effort of the Malaysia Multimedia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) in implementing the #DigitalvsCovid Campaign to help the Small and Medium Entreprises (SME) impacted by the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Its Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, in a statement today, said the move was in line with the policy of the ministry which always supported the agenda of empowering the digital economy headed by MDEC, one of the agencies under the ministry.

At the same time, he also welcomed the participations of 80 local, global level companies under the Global Growth Acceleration (GGA), organised by MDEC, which came forward to offer their expertise when the country was facing a challenging situation due to COVID-19.

‘’The companies will share their respective pro bono digital approaches and give discounts to local SME, based on digital technology, to continue their businesses during the MCO. The programme is in keeping with the national digital agenda which wanted numerous groups to benefit from the digital economy.

‘’More importantly, the solutions provided by the GGA companies are in line with measures such as social distancing, cashless transaction and workers’ personal hygienic care to reduce the risk of being infected by COVID-19.

Yesterday, MDEC announced that the #DigitalvsCovid Campaign - utilising the expertise of the GGA - would be helping local SME entrepreneurs, which the agency managed to co-ordinate in a short period of time, to reduce the economic impact faced by the group.

‘’KKMM appreciates the prompt feedback which was given by the quarters involved, to make the programme successful. At the same time, the ministry will continue to seek the best method to enable the various strata of society and business community in the country to benefit from the plan activated digitally by MDEC in these challenging times,’’said Saifuddin.

The MCO, which started on March 18 to April 14, was enforced by the government to curb the spread of COVID-19.
