POKOK SENA, Feb 14 – Housewife Sharifah Sharimah Syed Ali, 41, is appealing for financial aid after being diagnosed with stage four skin cancer last month.
The mother of three from Kampung Kolon here used to sell nasi lemak, but as her health has deteriorated and she is now bedridden, her family is depending solely on her husband Mohd Yusof Awang’s income.
However, Mohd Yusof, 47, a rubber tapper, has no fixed income and spends a lot of time taking care of Sharifah Sharimah.
“Our life keeps falling apart, what more with my husband having to take time off his job to bring me to the Penang Hospital for treatment.
“The next appointment is on Feb 24, and we need RM500 for treatment cost alone, apart from expenses on transport and food,” she told Bernama here today.
Sharifah Sharimah said the cancer has spread to her brain and the financial hardship the family is facing is wearing her down even more.
Therefore, she is hoping for assistance from the Social Welfare Department and Kedah State Tithe Board (LZNK) to ease her husband’s burden.
Meanwhile, Sahabat Charity Balqish (SCB) chairman Rukiza Abu Bakar, who heard of Sharifah Sharimah’s woes, handed over food such as rice and biscuits as well as monetary aid to her at her house today.
Members of public who would like to help can donate to her Bank Islam account 02075025100097 under the name Sharifah Sharimah or contact Mohd Yusof at 013-8406931.
