KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Perbadanan Kota Buku (PKB) has listed 10 schools for the implementation of the second phase of this year’s Kota Buku Mini Project, a high-impact strategic initiative, fully funded by the Ministry of Education, aimed at enhancing the reading habit and literacy.
In a statement, PKB said the schools are Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pulau Redang (K9) and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kampung Batu Kerteh (Terengganu), Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chong Hua 1 and SJKC Aulong (Perak), SK Taman Rinting 3 (Johor) and SK Lukut (Negeri Sembilan).
Also selected are SK Tangkungon (Sabah), SK Pendidikan Khas Kuching (Sarawak), SMK Padang Temu (Melaka) and SMK Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi (Selangor).
“Phase two involves upgrading resource centre facilities, constructing classroom reading corners, providing modern reading pods, supplying digital reading materials, distributing books through the Book Capital platform, as well as activating NILAM Clubs and literacy activities in schools,” read the statement.
It stated that the schools will also receive new furniture and bookshelves, physical and digital reading materials, education technology equipment, as well as support for the literacy programme.
“The implementation is to take place from August to December 2025, culminating in an official launch and project handover ceremony.
“This initiative is part of the national agenda to enhance knowledge in line with the Malaysia MADANI aspirations and the Malaysia Education Development Plan, while also providing a model for a more dynamic and user-friendly 21st century school resource centres,” it added.
In the same statement, PKB chief executive officer Adibah Omar said the initiative not only improves physical facilities but also builds a continuous and inclusive reading ecosystem.
“We believe the implementation of phase two of the initiative will have a positive impact on thousands of students, including those in special education, in fostering a love of reading from an early age,” she added.
