Feasibility Study For Southern WCE To Be Completed Mid-December

JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- The feasibility study for the 230km southern stretch of the West Coast Expressway (WCE), linking Banting in Selangor to Gelang Patah here, is expected to be completed by Dec 16.

Johor Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the project is a strategic initiative to provide an alternative route to the North-South Expressway (E2), which often experiences heavy congestion, particularly during festive seasons and weekends.

The route will connect Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor, covering 11 districts and 14 local authorities.

“The study is scheduled to run from June to December 2025, with the final report and traffic model expected to be completed by Dec 16, 2025. Three focus group discussion sessions will also be conducted during this period.

“In Johor, the districts include Batu Pahat, Johor Bahru, Muar, Pontian and Tangkak, making this project a catalyst for regional infrastructure and economic development,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Mohamad Fazli said the project is expected to ease traffic congestion on main routes, reduce travel time and strengthen logistics and investment networks.

“By 2030, an estimated 26 percent of traffic is expected to shift to this new route, making the Southern WCE a long-term solution to mobility challenges in the southern region. May all development efforts in Johor progress smoothly,” he added.
