KUALA KANGSAR, July 17 (Bernama) -- The Perak government has allocated RM720,000 to assist cooperatives in the state through the GKOP Urus and GKOP Pulih assistance grants.
State Women, Family, Social Welfare, Cooperatives and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed said the initiative could help cooperatives increase their income through business activities.
She said the GKOP Urus assisted cooperatives in their early business ventures with grants of up to RM5,000, while the GKOP Pulih provided up to RM30,000 for cooperatives seeking to revive operations and return to active status.
“This form of assistance, which was introduced last year, has greatly helped strengthen cooperatives in the state,” she said.
She said this when met by reporters after attending the Sejati MADANI Impian Jadi Realiti Wilayah Programme held in conjunction with National Cooperative Month 2025, organised by the Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission Perak Branch, here today.
On the programme, Salbiah said it was held to encourage members of the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) to establish cooperatives as a platform to manage business activities using the RM100,000 allocation received from the federal government.
She said the establishment of cooperatives served as a management mechanism that empowered them to carry out business activities with the potential to generate income and improve the socio-economic status of the community and their members.
“The formation of cooperatives by the JPKK indirectly offers opportunities for members to take part in their management and benefit economically from cooperative activities,” she added.
