MAIK Expands Digital ‘Sedekah’ Access Via Collaboration With SecurePay

KOTA BHARU, July 30 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Syarikat Securepay Sdn Bhd to develop the Sedekah e-Jariah Masjid and Sedekah Seriya Sehari digital platforms.

MAIK president Tan Sri Tengku Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz said Securepay had contributed RM460,000 towards the platforms’ development through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

He added that the e-Jariah Masjid system, launched on 20 February, provides a convenient platform for the public to make online donations to 621 mosques across Kelantan.

“Meanwhile, the Sedekah Seriya Sehari platform, launched this month, targets every Kelantanese, regardless of location, to contribute ‘seriya’ (RM1) a day,” he told reporters after witnessing the MoU signing ceremony.

The MoU was signed by MAIK deputy president Datuk Mohd Anis Hussein and Securepay executive director Datuk Amir Haris Ahmad.

Tengku Mohamad Rizam said that, in line with MAIK’s role as a religious institution, its responsibilities should be broadened by providing the public with easy, transparent and secure means to make donations.

Elaborating, he added that although the Sedekah Seriya Sehari platform involved only a small daily donation of RM1 from each individual, it could still make a significant impact on society, particularly for those in need who fall outside the asnaf (eligible tithe recipients) category.

“A daily contribution of RM1 can help ease the burdens of the less fortunate, regardless of race, ethnicity or religion. This MoU is expected to bring great benefits to the people of Kelantan and advance the digital transformation of online donations and infaq,” he said.
