KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 (Bernama) – Malaysian fashion designer, Hatta Dolmat (HD), aimed to make a difference in the world by sending models down the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) 2022 catwalk in a ready-to-wear (RTW) collection made from 2,294 recycled plastic bottles.

During a Bernama interview at the 10th anniversary event, he said that his two RTW collections, called HD Vague and HD Peculiar, were made from 163m of sustainable fabric, namely chiffon and matte satin.

He said the HD Vague collection was inspired by the songket, which is not an everyday wear material “so I blended a traditional motif with a modern design as a monogram on sustainable fabric".

He designed 12 pieces for this high-end collection, while HD Peculiar for young people has 25 outfits.

Fast fashion is of course a lucrative business, said social enterprise Kloth Malaysia co-founder, Nik Suzila Nik Hassan, but they want to enlighten industry players about sustainable fashion (aka slow fashion) and technology.

“The HD Vague and HD Peculiar collections using recycled polyester (rPET) managed to lower the 328.31kg of carbon emissions normally produced by virgin polyester (vPET),” she said.

Meanwhile, Wanda Ismarosa Fatima, who is the international marketing manager for Indonesian brand, Wardah, said her company has been looking for a Malaysian partner with similar beliefs and they've found that in Hatta who cares for the environment.

“The four pillars of our company are health, education, female empowerment and environmental sustainability. We would achieve one of our objectives through this collaboration.

“I hope it will have a (positive) effect and bring benefits for people, especially our customers," she said.
