KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia ended lower at midday today as profit-taking activities continued from mid-morning in most lower liners and selected blue-chip counters, led by industrial products and services stocks.
At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 1.53 points lower at 1,516.59 from Thursday’s close of 1,518.12. The benchmark index opened at 1,516.91, less 1.21 points, and subsequently moved between 1,513.39 and 1,517.59 throughout the morning session.
The broader market was also negative, with decliners outnumbering gainers 492 to 226. A total of 415 counters remained unchanged, 1,213 untraded and 20 suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.13 billion units, valued at RM730.54 million.
Maybank Investment Bank, in a note, said that going forward, all eyes will be focused on the US Nonfarm Payrolls report due tonight, as market sentiment remains sensitive to renewed tariff concerns.
Technically, it expects the benchmark index to range between 1,510-1,530 points today, with support remaining at 1,500-1,440 points.
Among the heavyweights, Petronas Chemicals shed 9.0 sen to RM3.27, Petronas Dagangan fell by 24 sen to RM20.90, CelcomDigi slipped 4.0 sen to RM3.83, Press Metal Aluminium eased 5.0 sen to RM4.98 and CIMB was down 4.0 sen to RM6.83.
Among the most active stocks, Tanco added 1.0 sen to RM1.01, while MYEG, Reservoir Link Energy and KPJ were flat each at 93 sen, 35.5 sen and RM2.78, respectively. Signature Alliance Group gained 1.0 sen to 71 sen.
On the index board, the FBM Emas Index lost 11.15 points to 11,351.68, the FBMT 100 Index shaved 6.66 points to 11,121.70, and the FBM ACE Index decreased 28.73 points to 4,489.41.
The FBM Emas Shariah Index gave up 20.12 points to 11,320.62, while the FBM 70 Index gained 8.36 points to 16,291.67.
Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index trimmed 21.75 points to 17,717.82, the Industrial Products and Services Index was 1.27 points lower at 150.85, but the Energy Index rose 7.90 points to 716.51 and the Plantation Index grew 14.46 points to 7,233.84.
