BURSA MALAYSIA ENDS MORNING SESSION FLAT ON LACK OF CATALYSTS

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia reversed earlier gains to end the morning session marginally lower in the absence of new catalysts, a dealer said.

At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) shaved 0.64 of a point, or 0.04 per cent, to 1,600.58 compared to Thursday’s close of 1,601.22.

The barometer index, which opened 2.24 points better at 1,603.46, moved between 1,600.39 and 1,604.07 during the session.

On the broader market, decliners led gainers 509 to 500 while 461 counters were unchanged, 870 untraded and 26 others suspended.  

Turnover amounted to 2.66 billion units worth RM1.59 billion.

Among the heavyweight stocks, Maybank rose three sen to RM9.87, Public Bank added one sen to RM4.18 and CIMB gained two sen to RM6.77. Tenaga Nasional fell six sen to RM12.38 and Petronas Chemicals eased two sen to RM6.98.

As for the actives, MRCB bagged two sen to 71 sen, Pan Malaysia fell one sen to 28.5 sen and Top Glove added three sen to 94.5 sen. AHB picked up 1.5 sen to 16 sen and Iconic stayed flat at 12 sen. 

Meanwhile, Annum Bhd triggered the Practice Note 17 (PN17) criteria of the Main Market listing requirements on May 8 and admitted to the PN17 status category on Thursday.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index slipped 1.70 points to 12,083.57, the FBMT 100 Index was 2.93 points lower at 11,696.44 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index dropped 17.35 points to 12,278.39. The FBM 70 Index put on 2.69 points to 16,958.79 and the FBM ACE Index shed 30.47 points to 5,140.02.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index climbed 49.03 points to 17,519.68, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 0.33 of-a-point to 192.32 and the Plantation Index dropped 38.68 points to 7,423.84. The Energy Index trimmed 5.59 points to 983.06.
