KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 -- Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session flat, with the benchmark index edging 0.04 per cent.
At lunch break, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) added 0.57 of-a-point to 1,523.45. It moved between 1,521.12 and 1,524.51 throughout the morning session.
The index opened 1.33 points better at 1,524.21 from 1,522.88 at Tuesday's close.
On the broader market, decliners outpaced gainers 454 to 310, while 427 counters were unchanged, 1,150 untraded and 45 others suspended.
Total volume stood at 1.60 billion units worth RM961.33 million.
With third quarter earnings coming in thick and fast, Rakuten Trade said it had been rather encouraging as most large cap companies displayed resilience with decent sets of figures.
"For today, as the index hovers near its immediate support level, we reckon some bargain-hunting to emerge and expect it to trend between the 1,520- ,530 range," the brokerage said in a research note today.
Among the heavyweights, Petronas Chemicals gained three sen to RM8.34, IHH Healthcare rose two sen to RM6.72, CIMB added one sen to RM5.20, Maybank shed four sen to RM8.12, Public Bank eased one sen to RM4.06, and TNB declined two sen to RM9.48.
Of the actives, Vsolar inched up half-a-sen to 1.5 sen, WZ Satu increased 2.5 sen to 25.5 sen, Dagang Nexchange was 1.5 sen higher at 88 sen, while Metronic Global was flat at 1.5 sen, Bumi Armada decreased one sen to 46.5 sen, Kejuruteraan Asastera went down two sen to 31.5 sen, and ATA IMS lost 10 sen to RM1.10.
On the index board, the FBM ACE improved 7.62 points to 6,723.93, the FBM Emas Index contracted 10.49 points to 11,202.91, the FBMT 100 index weakened 10.88 points to 10,858.17, the FBM Emas Shariah Index erased 5.32 points to 12,151.83, and the FBM 70 shrank 73.31 points to 14,644.86.
Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index narrowed 17.55 points to 15,267.14, the Industrial Products and Services Index fell 0.51 of-a-point to 199.01, and the Plantation Index widened 17.59 points to 6,592.62.
