KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 -- The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI futures contract (FKLI) on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives finished easier today, in tandem with the weaker underlying cash market, dragged by the latest political development in the country.
Today’s political event saw the withdrawal of UMNO from Perikatan Nasional, along with the dissolution of the Sabah State Assembly to pave the way for a state election, sending Bursa Malaysia to close lower ahead of the Aidiladha celebration tomorrow.
At the close, spot month July 2020 fell 24.0 points to 1,590.5, August 2020 contracted 12.5 points to 1,598.5, September 2020 was 13.0 lower at 1,590.0, and December 2020 slipped 9.5 points to 1,581.5.
Turnover decreased to 16,898 lots from 31,309 lots on Wednesday, while open interest fell to 53,310 contracts from 66,756 contracts yesterday.
At the closing bell, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI lost 7.67 points or 0.47 per cent to 1,603.75 from 1,611.42 at yesterday’s close.
Bursa Malaysia Bhd and its subsidiaries will be closed tomorrow for the Aidiladha holiday. Trading will resume on Monday.
