Sarawakians display high public awareness to fight COVID-19

KUCHING, Sept 20 -- The high level of public awareness shown by the people of Sarawak to undergo voluntary swab testing shows their sincerity to jointly curb COVID-19 infection in the state.

Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) Assistant Minister Abdullah Saidol said most of the cases recorded in Sarawak were from those who voluntarily came to undergo swab tests, and not due to the directive from the Health Ministry.

“Most of these positive cases were due to these individuals who voluntarily turned up to do a swab test on their own accord due to their concern of becoming individuals who have contact with others who are positive or a PUI (person under investigation).

The number of daily cases in Sarawak was recorded as the highest among the states in Malaysia, when a total of 3,714 cases were reported on Sept 6, and since then more than 1,000 daily cases continue to be recorded until today.

However, almost all of the daily cases recorded involved asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic cases.

Abdullah said Ukas, together with agencies such as the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), RTM, the Information Department and the state Health Department, would further increase public awareness initiatives to curb COVID-19 infection in the state.
