COVID: 2,078 new cases, Sarawak records highest number - Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR, April 19  -- The number of new COVID-19 cases continued to breach the 2,000-mark, with 2,078 cases recorded in the last 24 hours to take the cumulative total thus far to 377,132, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He tweeted today that Sarawak was the state with the highest number of infections, with 589 cases, followed by Selangor (457) and Kelantan (290).

Kuala Lumpur had 153 cases, followed by Sabah (125), Johor (115), Penang (91), Negeri Sembilan (91), Kedah (48), Perak (43), Pahang (32), Melaka (27), Terengganu (8), Labuan (6), Putrajaya (2) and Perlis (1). 

Meanwhile, according to the statement today, Dr Noor Hisham said eight fatalities, all involving Malaysians, were reported while the number of active cases with infectivity now stood at 20,522.

He said there were 1,402 recoveries and 228 patients being treated in the intensive care units, with 93 of them requiring ventilator assistance.

He added that 14 new clusters were also identified, involving six education-linked clusters, four community clusters, three workplace clusters and one religious cluster in Bayan Cenderawasih in Kedah. 

 Three of the education clusters were reported in Kelantan, namely in Tangok, Pulai Chondong and Jalan Hospital while the other three were in Jalan Tagasan (Sabah), Jalan Medan Aliff (Johor) and Jalan Weng (Kedah).  

Three community clusters were reported in Sarawak in Sungai Duan, Sungai Passin and Sungai Selitut while one was recorded in Perak, namely in Jalan Bandar Universiti.

Two workplace clusters were reported in Johor in Jalan Cahaya Baru and Cyber Park while one was recorded in Selangor in Jalan Sulah 16.
