MELAKA, Feb 28 -- The State Perikatan Nasional (PN) has prepared a total of 5,000 food kits under its Melaka Prihatin Food Bank (FBPM) programme, launched last January.

Melaka PN chairman Datuk Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen said so far, 2,500 food kits worth RM50 each had been distributed to the people in the state who have lost their source of income due to COVID-19.

“The remaining 2,500 food kits will be distributed to those in need based on the applications received previously.

“The food kits were contributed by various parties in an effort to help ease the burden of those affected by the spread of COVID-19,” he told reporters.

He said this after a corporate tithe presentation ceremony by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) at the Paya Rumput State Assembly Development and Coordination Committee (Japerun), here today.

At the event, Melaka SSM director Azrin Mohd Ripin presented RM16,000 worth of tithe aid to 32 asnaf (eligible tithe recipients) in the Tangga Batu parliamentary constituency.

On the tithe contribution, Mohd Rafiq who is also the Paya Rumput assemblyman said it was part of the government’s commitment to help ease the burden of the people, especially the asnaf affected by COVID-19, through various agencies.

“The tithe aid is a complement to the existing assistance provided by the government including Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) and Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR).

“The state government always welcomes the involvement of more corporate agencies and companies in distributing tithe aid (to the people in the state), as part of their corporate social responsibility initiative,” he said.
