COVID-19: Two deaths reported in Sarawak

KUCHING, Feb 28  -- Two more deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in Sarawak today bringing the total number of deaths from the pandemic in the state to 83 people.

State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), in a statement, said the 82nd death involved a local 78-year-old woman who had received treatment at the Bintulu Hospital for breathing difficulties.

‘’A screening test found her positive COVID-19 on February 16. Her health deteriorated and she died on February 27.

‘’The case has a co-morbidity with high blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney failure,’’ said the statement.

It said the 83rd death case was a local 80-year-old man who was warded at the Sibu Hospital from a care centre after a screening test found him positive on January 29.

"His health was found deteriorating and he was confirmed dead on February 27.

The case has a co-morbidity with high blood pressure, diabetes, and prostate cancer and it was revealed that the case was from the Pasai Cluster,’’ read the statement.

A total of 171 new COVID-19 cases were detected in Sarawak today bringing the total number of cases to 9,545, it added.
