COVID: 3,680 new cases, seven deaths Wednesday - Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 -- Another 3,680 new COVID-19 cases were recorded today, taking the country’s infection tally to 194,114 cases, 42,389 of them active.  

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the new cases, 3,647 were local transmissions while six more were import cases who got infected abroad. 

“Johor reported the highest number of cases with 1,069, followed by Selangor (822), Kuala Lumpur (698) and Sabah with 295,” he said in a statement on COVID-19 developments today. 

Dr Noor Hisham said 1,858 recoveries were reported today, taking the country’s recovery tally to 151,018 cases so far. 

However, there were also seven fatalities reported overnight, all involving Malaysians, with the death toll now at 707 cases. 

Also, 314 patients are being treated in the intensive care unit, with 122 intubated, Dr Noor Hisham said. 

As for the other states, Dr Noor Hisham said Perak reported 181 cases yesterday, Negeri Sembilan (112) Penang (101), Kedah (76), Sarawak (70), Terengganu (68), Melaka (63), Kelantan (60), Pahang (42), Putrajaya (19), Perlis (3) and Labuan (1).

He said 17 clusters were also identified today, with workplaces still being the top contributor with 15 clusters while the remaining two were community-based clusters. 

“The most number of cases reported today were from the Parit Lanjut cluster in Johor (521), followed by the Tapak Bina Persiaran Tecoma cluster in Kuala Lumpur (157) and the Industri Grisek cluster in Johor with 144 cases,” he said. 

The ones linked to workplaces are the Jalan Trus, Jalan Medini, Tengah Tiga and Pengerang Utara clusters, all located in Johor.

In Kuala Lumpur, he said the new workplace clusters identified were Jalan Danau, Jalan Yahya and Jalan Pudu, while in Selangor there were three - Jalan Mutiara Selangor, Tapak Bina Tanjung and Persiaran Perkilangan. 

Dr Noor Hisham said the other new workplace clusters were Sulaman (Sabah) and Jalan Seri cluster in Perak. 

The new community-based clusters identified were in Sarawak (Bendayan cluster) and the Jalan Pengkalan cluster in Perak, he added.
