Kelantan mosques ordered to hold Solat Hajat for 40 days

KOTA BHARU, Nov 17 -- The Kelantan Council of Islamic Affairs and Malay Customs (MAIK) has ordered mosques across the state to perform the solat hajat (prayer of need), offer doa selamat (invocation prayer) and recite the Yasin for 40 days, beginning today.

MAIK president, Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz, said in a statement today that it has received the consent of Kelantan ruler, Sultan Muhammad V, and is aimed at curbing the recent spike in cases nationwide and in the state.

“However, mosques in areas where COVID-19 clusters have been identified are exempt from this order.

“Aside from this, the akad nikah (solemnisation of marriage) at mosques may only be attended by a maximum 20 people,” he said.
