LABUAN, Oct 8 -- Labuan financial industry players contributed RM352,000 worth of medical facilities to the Labuan Health Department and Labuan Nucleus Hospital (formerly Labuan Hospital) today.

The contribution was part of the corporate social responsibility of the financial industry players to the Labuan community.

Labuan Financial Services Authority (Labuan FSA) director-general Datuk Danial Mah Abdullah said the contribution was towards the Labuan Health Department’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Labuan International Business and Financial Centre (Labuan IBFC) established a COVID-19 relief fund in March to contribute to the relief measures towards the local community of Labuan.

“Labuan IBFC has also been working closely with the Labuan Hospital to upgrade medical facilities and equipment.

“The upgrades will enable Labuan Hospital to deliver better healthcare services to the local community, especially in these COVID-19 pandemic times,” he said during the presentation of the facilities to the Labuan Health Department director Dr Ismuni Bohari here today.

He said this was also a long-term measure to ensure that the Labuan Hospital, being a critical service institution on the island, was well-equipped with the latest facilities to serve the community, including the Labuan IBFC.

“This is pertinent considering that more people will be based in Labuan under the (Economic) Substance requirements policy,” Mah said.

Today, the Labuan IBFC contributed one unit of the Cepheid GeneXpert Machine, together with a total of 600 Xpress SARS-CoV-2 test kits, for use in COVID-19 testing in Labuan.

The Cepheid GeneExpert Machine could also be used for the testing of other viruses.

In addition, the Labuan IBFC also contributed five units of Sundstrom SR 100 Silicon half-face masks, 70 new units of dual function hospital beds, one unit of triple function hospital bed and 69 units of adjustable overbed tables, to enhance the equipment in Labuan Hospital for patients’ comfort.

Apart from the above, the Labuan IBFC, during the early stages of the pandemic, contributed to the relief efforts in the form of beds, mattresses and pillows for the Labuan quarantine centres at Institut Latihan Perindustrian Labuan and Pusat Giat Mara Labuan, as well as, in the distribution of household necessities, foodstuff and healthcare products to the underprivileged, as well as, to front-line workers.

He said the Labuan IBFC would continue to contribute to the relief efforts for the well-being of the people in Labuan.
