SINGAPORE, Aug 14 -- Singapore has preliminarily confirmed 83 more cases of COVID-19 infection with no cases in the community, thus bringing the total tally to 55,580.

According to brief data released here by the republic’s Ministry of Health (MOH) today, there were however four imported cases, who had all been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.

The vast majority of today's cases are migrant workers currently under quarantine.

In its full data released late Thursday, the ministry said there were about 21,700 workers still serving out their quarantine period.

"These workers will be tested when their quarantine ends, and we expect the case counts to remain high in the coming days, before tapering down thereafter," it said.

As at noon yesterday, the republic had classified 780 of the reported cases as imported, 2,201 as community cases and 52,516 as dorm residents.

A total of 50,736 patients or about 91 per cent of the cumulative figure of cases have fully recovered from the infection and been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.

Meanwhile, 91 confirmed cases are still in hospital but none in the intensive care unit.

A total of 4,643 patients who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still tested positive for COVID-19, have been isolated and cared for at community facilities.

To date, 27 people have died from complications due to COVID-19 in the republic.

No new cluster was identified yesterday, and 10 more clusters have been closed.
