SINGAPORE, Aug 9 -- Singapore has preliminarily reported an additional 175 cases of COVID-19 infection for the past 24 hours with three imported cases.

According to a brief data released here by the republic’s Ministry of Health (MOH) today, all the imported cases had been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.

Based on its investigations, the ministry said there was only one case in the community involving a Singaporean.

The vast majority of the cases, meanwhile, were "work permit holders currently under quarantine and workers tested in previous days due to dormitory clearance."

With the latest development, it brings the infection tally for the republic to 55,104.

In its full data released late Saturday, the ministry classified 745 of the reported cases as imported, 2,191 as community cases and 51,993 as dorm residents.

In all, 48,583 patients or about 88 per cent have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities here.

Meanwhile, 145 confirmed cases are still in hospital.

Of these, the ministry said most were stable or improving, and none was in the intensive care unit.

A total of 6,174 cases who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still tested positive for COVID-19, are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

To date, 27 people have died from complications due to COVID-19 infection in the republic.

A new cluster was identified yesterday, a dormitory at 35 Kian Teck Way.
