SINGAPORE, Aug 8 -- Singapore has preliminarily confirmed 132 new cases of COVID-19 infection for the past 24 hours with six imported cases.
According to a brief data released here by the republic’s Ministry of Health (MOH) today, all the imported cases had been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.
Based on its investigations so far, the ministry said there was one case in the community involving a Singaporean.
The vast majority of the cases, meanwhile, were work permit holders residing in a few standalone blocks in the dormitories that serve as quarantine facilities.
With the latest development, it brings the infection tally for the republic to 54,929.
In its full data released late Friday, the ministry said the testing of all workers in the dormitories, except for a few standalone blocks in the dormitories that serve as two quarantine facilities, has been completed.
The ministry said the workers in these quarantine facilities will be tested when their isolation ends, and as such, the case counts are expected to remain high in the coming days, before tapering down thereafter.
As at noon Friday, Singapore classified 739 of the reported cases as imported, 2,190 as community cases and 51,868 as dorm residents.
At the same time, a total of 48,312 patients or about 88 per cent have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities here.
Meanwhile, there were 124 confirmed cases still in hospital.
Of these, the ministry said most were stable or improving, and none was in the intensive care unit.
A total of 6,334 cases who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still tested positive for COVID-19, are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
To date, 27 people have died from complications due to COVID-19 infection in the republic.
A new cluster was identified yesterday, a dormitory at 66 Tech Park Crescent.
