BANGKOK, Aug 7 -- Thailand has reported 15 new COVID-19 cases, including 10 Thais who had returned from Saudi Arabia, and zero fatalities over the last 24 hours, bringing the tally to 3,345 cases with 58 fatalities.

Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman Thaweesilp Wissanuyothin said the new patients comprise nine Thai students and a factory worker who had returned from Saudi Arabia, four Thais who were from Egypt and another Thai man who returned from Japan.

“To date, a total of 408 Thais from 72,723 of those who returned from abroad and had undergone quarantine at state facilities, tested positive for COVID-19,” he said at a COVID-19 daily briefing today.

Meanwhile, Thaweesilp said Thailand will open its doors to more foreigners including businessmen in the fruit sector to support the struggling economy hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the CCSA meeting today agreed to allow fruit businessmen to enter the kingdom to purchase fruits from local farmers which would contribute about one billion baht in value.

“This business group plans to stay in Thailand for about three months. They will have to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine,” he said.

However, he did not reveal when the group would be arriving.
